On the look out...

A few months ago I was with my friend shopping. We've been friends for 41 years.  I find things when we shop together.  This end table was one of those items.  I didn't buy it, but I love it and I plan to recreate it on a piece of real wood, this was not, it was that sawdust and glue stuff.  So now I'm on the look out. I need a night table that will house my socks.  With the cold weather I have amassed a vast collection of socks. And I think this would be a great place to keep my collection for easy retrieval.  I usually dress in the dark, I'm early and my husband is a sleep-in guy, probably because he works nights.  My room is a very neutral colour and this splash of colour would just be GREAT. I may however, warm it up with a redish tone rather than the purples.I also think it might look great with the top black and ...  We'll see... It's Friday and that means a trip to my mothers and the wait at the smokey bus shelter... The possibilities are endless.

Well as it turned out there were a great many hazardous things en route to my mother's and I didn't get to the "shop" so no luck on the hunt.   I don't know what it is about Fridays but everyone goes wild on the streets, water mains explode, people do things on railway tracks that are deadly.RIP. troubled souls no doubt. So my visit with my mom was quiet, she was well, and co-operative albeit sleepy.  She sleeps so much these days, catching up I guess.

Stairway to...

I hardly ever participate in this meme anymore... It's theme Thursday, probably because my life really starts on Friday.  January 6th theme, was stairs and while I took pictures, I neglected to post. But, we've had some snow the photo on the left is one of an old building, presently under renovation, in Hamilton. I took it while waiting for the bus, as I always do.  I happened to look up and there on the top of this building there is a spiral staircase on the outside, what would anyone need to be climbing out on the very top for?  It's scary.  And then we had some snow, on the right, you can't even see the stairs, and who's climbing down, I think I'll get my little sleigh out, opps... I didn't tell you about that... Isn't it adorable?

Sunkist

Still cleaning! I was in a cupboard the other day and came across these glasses. Remember when we drank this little bit of juice with our breakfast. My guys drink 1/2 litre of juice at a time, usually the bottle lasts one meal, and that's if it's not hot. When I packed Daniels lunch it was a 3quart box of juice. Our eating habits have changed considerably. I'm finding my cookbook being adjusted constantly, the old recipes are just that "old" we are so much more aware of fat and sugar and carbs etc. I've made considerable changes to favorites. But I really don't remember fat people when I was growing up so what happened? Enjoy a glass of sunshine in a bigger glass, and offer me suggestions on what to do with these. So far, they've been Andy's vinegar containers. He puts vinegar on everything. Yuk! If I continue to let him use them there will not be any left for my kids to take to the Antique Road Show.

Lunch bag let down...

I don't know if any of you are old enough to remember this commercial, it had something to do with some kind of quick lunches. I always thought that was a great way describe feelings about some major disappointment. I'm not disappointed but I just feel like I have the worst case of lunch bag let down, probably this very long winter. I got up this morning and had all kinds of plans to clean my house. Monday is downstairs day, and laundry. It's always laundry day. I got as far as the chair my book was sitting on, and thought "oh I'll just read till my water boils," well I finished the book and three kettles of boiling water later. I haven't done that in a great many years. I even rushed my niece off the phone, because I wanted to see what happened, in the book that is, she called at a crucial part. It's been a long time since a book captured my attention for that long. Usually I just read a bit and fall asleep. I read through the Oscars, and well into the night. Well I guess I didn't get much sleep, no wonder the lunch bag let down. Anyway well into the day, as I was making supper, I did a very little bit of house cleaning. I still have a bunch of stuff sitting there needing refinishing or painting or something, I know if I put things away "they will be out of sight out of mind" so here they sit. I have old sewing machine table I'd really like to use it as a cutting system spot, with my score -it board and all my blades and stuff,it has a drawer and everything for my blades(the cat is always running off with my blades) but it has a gross arborite top which has large holes in it. I'd just like to put a huge cutting mat on top, or cork. I've checked out cork by the foot, and all the instructions say use a cork suitable glue, what the H_ _ L is that? Why not just tell me what it is. Anyway, when I scrubbed up the legs and saw that lovely S in an oval and Singer brace it kinda said to me just leave it here, and you'll think of something fabulous to do with it. Nothing yet! Got any ideas? I'm not even watching Antiques Road Show tonight, I'm afraid they'll have someone come in with a sewing machine table that has been altered and give them bad news.

Eurika!

O.k. Now we've done it! You know how Leslie and I have been looking for these small hangers. WELL Eurika. We've found them. Yet another project to do! It will be great when we get to it. We've now decided that we need to get back to our Thursday doing things day. We've sort of got side tracked with life and neglected all these things we love to do. After a lovely trip to the ONE of a Kind show yesterday our inspirational juices are exploding all over the place. Carmi's booth was fabulous. These hangers were found in the most unlikely place. No antique store, just a scrapping wharehouse sale we had not planned on going to. We have a fierce loyalty to Bizzy B's so we thought we should at least check it out. Well thank you Bizzy B's. We'll be back. Can't say that without thinking of Arnold.

I'm getting old, I think...

I think I might be getting old. Some of you may or may not know I've been and artisty type for most of my life. I find my sisters and brother all have different tastes than me. I like old and weird. In the last few years I've discovered paper arts. Beyond the friendship and atmosphere of doing paper arts I truly love to see the development of what I thought was new art. I must be old and out of it, but apparently these things have been going on for years. I am always in awe of the creativity of these young women, and it's mostly women who partake in these extravagant adventures. (Other than Philip) Since I've began blogging I keep getting lost in the blog world of artists. Bird in the hand, Carmi, Susan Williamson and more. I know these names are not household, other than in the world of paper artists. I am so amazed that a good many of these ladies are career artist, with family and husbands and homes and most of them work from a studio at home. I wish I had that kind of control over my time. I always seem to get distracted. For example, I have been trying to sort photos for our Christmas in July crop, only to discover that most of my Christmas photos are at my sisters home. Well that means a road trip. So I thought o.k. I'll get reorganized with my school days books. I didn't apply the 3 second rule*. I relived elementary school. And the day is gone, time to make supper, and what about that ironing I was suppose to do. So indeed I must salute the ladies who make a living as artists and have homes, and husbands and kids and some of you teach, a huge BRAVO!

So to conclude why I think I might be getting old, I'm finding some of the arts a little too weird for me. Is this the new wave? Will I be able to catch it? Should old people be doing the wave?

*the 3 second rule, is you limit yourself to looking at a single photo for 3 seconds and then get on with sorting.

I was so impressed with one of my friends at painting taking pictures of everything she had painted and then being able to part with it. I have decided to do that also,(and clean house) even though I don't have much of my work left. Getting ready to catch the wave. The photo is of two of my projects, the star book, I did a million years ago with Marisa, and an altered book dedicated to women the through ages.
( a work in progress).
My studio and home are in such a state that I had a hard time finding an appropriate location to take this photo, so it's on a chair that I will be upholstering in Sept. yet another adventure. the leather is reserved for full metal jacket books.

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to my wonderful son,  it's bee 33wonderful years. Hope this year proves to be the best yet.
