It's Monday what are you Reading?Still Life

Well I should be reading How to paint your house in on day>>> but I'm not.  It's been very warm and lovely and it's gardening time.... not much reading completed this week.
 It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week.  It's a great post to organize yourself. It's an opportunity to visit and comment, and er... add to that ever growing TBR pile! So welcome in everyone. This meme started with J Kaye's Blog   and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Spent the week with Inspector Gamache. The man of my dreams, and he loves brioche.  I'd never read Louise Penny in order and decided this summer is the time to do this, so I started at the beginning, I'm sure I have many, but this one was in larger print, bravo, great to read with my sunglasses on.   So I enjoyed this one, I planted 3 pines in my front yard after reading "How the Light Gets in". they are getting REALLY tall, I may have to move the house. If not, I'll have to relocate the plants from beneath them, they don't get much sun anymore.   I'm thrilled to announce also, that Louise Penny is also a brilliant Canadian author, one more Maple Leaf in my reading log.

Sunday Salon

Well the week has once again flown by, and it'll be Monday in a few hours.  This week I finally finished

A little more graphic than I usually read, but very good, a page turner indeed.  I sat in Macdonald's (without eating anything) to finish the last chapter, it was raining outside.   A great recommendation by Nise from Under the Boardwalk.  
If you are the least bit squeemish, don't read this one.  I had no idea there was such ugliness in the world, I thought for sure I'd read it all, but after The Devils Punch Bowl, this one takes the cake.  I can't imagine how much therapy these people will need.

It's Monday what are you reading.

Well it's May already.  April just flew by, it was very busy, and May doesn't look like it's going to slow down.  I didn't read great amounts, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading my Irish authors throughout the month of March, and finished Maeve Binchy, The Glass Lake, into the first week of April.  And then I had a Sarah Addison Allen thing happen to me.  If you've read Sugar Queen, you'll remember the character found books appropriate to her life, at the moment, dilemma.  Well I went to my monthly Antique Assoc. meeting and didn't we have a guest speaker on Stain glass windows and their history.  She focuses on Notre Dame.  Meanwhile in the book world,  Margaret from Books Please, had recommended, The Cleaner of Chartres.  I really enjoyed the read, and was now able to visualize the lovely descriptions.

it took me way too long to finish my last Maeve Binchy book, Glass Lake, loved it of coarse, and now I'm on to 

this choice of book was sort of coincidental,  The Canadian Antique Association had a guest speaker, illuminating us on stain glass, and Charters was a highlight of the talk, well low and behold I had it in the hold bin at our local library... weird ... or what?

I am hoping...

to find a easy solution to attaching curtain rods to a ceiling, I'm not so tall these days.

I am learning...

I'm getting too old for some of my adventures

In my garden...

my bulbs are up and the ready to bloom, hopefully it will stay warm

In my kitchen...

I'm baking a cake,  and in the a.m. I'll be making a wicked Curry Vegetable dish for our Pot Luck.

each of my 10 guest received one of these hand painted stockings (painted by me)(design adaptation from Wendy Fahey) a bit of work, but fun. My Lenten rose which is also in this design is in full bloom, it sounds like  it a showy flower but it really isn't, it's just interesting.

In the school room...

both my boys are finished University, for now, I hope they will be life long learners

Irish authors continued...

I've been clearing out my book shelf, and in so doing reading my way through the TBR pile. These last few days I finished, The Return Journey, Maeve Binchy.  Do you get the feeling I like Maeve?  The Return Journey is a series of short stories, of real ordinary people and real ordinary incidence.  Very enjoyable.  Do check it out.

It's Monday What are your Reading?

It's Monday,  I'm reading only Irish authors this March. Last week I read Maeve Binchy's Deeply Regretted, and Today started to read the Journey Home. Deeply Regretted by... a wee great play.  It was interesting that the author mentioned that after the play was performed she received letters with rather upset writers asking "how dare she tell their story"

Presenting a brave and revealing account of a hidden layer of Irish society, Maeve Binchy first brought the subject to the surface in her Irish Times story, "Death of Kilburn," also included in this volume.

I could not help but agree, there were many such cases, and not only in Irish history, but I think many more nationalities. In my parents circle I can think of more than one couple... You'll have to read it to find out what I'm talking about. It's a short read. One bus trip worth.

Well I've been a little behind in my reading lately, or should I say posting about my reading. I'm well into The End of Wasp Season, Denise Mina, and then as luck would have it I left it someplace... UGH!  So you can imagine my delight when my friend phoned and asked if it was my book.  Well, I didn't get it back until just this past Wednesday, and amazingly remembered where the story left off, it's getting very exciting.

In the mean time read Star Sullivan, Maeve Binchy.  A short, quick read. Love Maeve.  With it being March, or soon to be, I'll be reading only Irish authors, or stories set in Ireland.  We could all be a little Irish.
