Happy Postcard Friendship Friday, happy indeed

Yesterday I hinted a another mail delivery, Nancy, thoughtful Nancy, sent me a bundle of these funny postcards. I had to post these two together. My sister from whom I hear everyday of the year except when she's on vacation, Alice and her husband are off on a sunny holiday, a much needed one. Alice will lay on the beach, and enjoy the people watching. By the time she comes home she will know everything there is to know about everyone at the hotel/resort, and quite possibly the surrounding town. I think she should have been and investigator or at least James Bond's backup man. If she weren't such a chicken that might have been a career choice.

Mitch on the other hand doesn't know how to lay around so he'll be playing any games that are happening, (the recreation staff love him). But I'm sure he'll enjoy the scenery as well.

My phone will probably not ring at all this week.

Many thanks to Nancy from All Pulped Out, isn't she sweet for thinking of me.

And a big thank you to Beth for hosting Postcard Friendship Friday

I've been reading reviews of books that are "suitable for laying on the beach and reading", I was so tempted to go along on a beach trip, except I really don't enjoy travelling. I may splurge and buy myself a chaise lounge and sit on my porch. Veranda Beach isn't it, no need to pack, no need to make arrangements for animals or children, or husbands, etc. My problem with a chaise lounge is I have no where to keep it in the "off" season. Maybe I'll just read in my living room, stick my feet out the window and lay on my sofa.

Have a great Friday, I'm off to my mom's so I'll be brain dead by the end of the day.

I have to add I'm not brain dead from my mom today, she had a good day, we actually had a real conversation, you wonder how the mind works sometimes don't you?

What's the best advice you have ever gotten?

This was a question from one of Carmi's beading friends I thought it was worth a post. By my mentioning my kids so often you must think I like them. I'm guilty. If I could choose between doing my house work and watching cartoons or other crap with my kids I would. So it stands to reason that advice in that regard would be something I would have heeded. When my first baby was born I was bombarded with advice from every woman who had ever had a baby and crossed my path. I think the one that sticks in my mind the most is "enjoy them now, because they grow up so fast." I did and do enjoy my kids. But, I always thought I would actually get to relax and enjoy them as well. Well they've grown up, and they don't really want to go to the movies with their mom. They'd rather have a date with them. They don't really want to go shopping with me, they'd rather go with their friends. They don't really want to go on vacation with me either, they want to do the white water rapid thing, instead. They always complained that I made them learn things even on vacation, limited as they were. So Aren't I glad I did what I could afford with them when they still wanted me.

I want to "share"

When my kids were little I forbid them to use the word "share". Am I as nuts as you think? Quite possibly. I spent a couple of weeks with my niece and nephew and my boys during summer vacation, while my sister and her husband were on a cruise. Most of the two weeks are a blur... but All I can remember is them all of "them" complaining about each other that " so and so won't share" I got so sick of hearing this, it seemed to be the only words they knew, I forbid my kids to ever say "share" again. They were clever enough, I thought to use a thesaurus and find another word. Why is it that we expect our children to share their toys with others? We, as adults don't. When my brother kept trying to get his kids to share, I challenged him with the idea he share his car with me. NEVER HAPPENED. So sharing sucks. Why am I bringing this up you ask? Well once again, I was at my mother's. I don't know if you all know that my mother and I were once a sewing duo/trio/quartet. She more than I/Us. I was her partner in crime for only three years. When my dad died she decided she wanted to work outside the home, and dumped me ( much like she does now). However, she had been sewing for forty years. She has acquired a number of wonderful little tidbits. Filling a room 20 X 40 feet. Much of these treasures are finding their way to my tiny little home. I just can't part with some of these items. When Leslie showed us her wedding dress a few weeks ago, I thought, "I have that pattern "and the search began. Today I emptied one filing cabinet of patterns, (only six more to go) some I have to keep, and some I recycled. Then I found the mother load. Lace from many a wedding dress. I've been reading Carmi again, and boy do I feel good, she had all those Iris carts with lace. I only have a bit left. I would really love to "share" some of these adventures in sewing with someone but I'm not sure who would be interested. My mother use to tell us old time stories when we sewed late at night just to keep Barb and me awake. My boys always loved to hear about the people she would talk about, and the literal translation always made you laugh hysterically. Like "Johnny Scar" I'm sure he's been in at least one creative writing piece. And HE'LL BE BACK! Photo of my mom and one of the sharing kids, in a Polish Folk costume my mom made for her.

There must be something wrong with me...

There must be something wrong with me. I had a short discussion with someone yesterday regarding taking a vacation. I'm really not interested. I found over the last three years the school year is so mixed up with the boys on different schedules, a husband who holds three or more part time jobs and my own obligations we hardly warm a spot in our home. A number of years ago when the boys were younger, we asked them what they would like to do for vacation. Well of course Daniel or Dan as he is now being called, wanted to go on a dig, and Sasha wanted to eat pizza in bed and watch television. So off we headed to Midland, there was a dig going on at one of the forts used by the early French missionaries and the public was welcome to join in. We then got a hotel room, ordered pizza and watched a rented movie in bed. How easy was that. We did a couple of other touristy things, and drove home quite satisfied to have spent the week together without interruption of the rest of our lives . Then in May of 2001 a group from our parish was going to Washington, and again that's what they wanted to do. So the boys and I went with a bunch of very senior members of our congregation and did a really touristy thing in Washington, we separated from the group a day and went to the Smithsonian, and took public transit from there to "Springfield" where we were staying. Even though I was bus sick the whole way there, it once again proved to be a rewarding vacation. I can't think of a block of time at present where we would all be available. That's the only thing that makes me sad. I can however, and just fake it. Stay home with my home boys and do some eating of pizza in bed, and dig in the garden. Sounds like a plan.

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to my wonderful son,  it's bee 33wonderful years. Hope this year proves to be the best yet.
