Saturday Snapshot.. you're a sweetheart

what did you do with your laptop MOTHER?
I'd like to say I've been absent from my blog because I've inhaled so much chocolate and flower fumes that it's made me mindless, I'd like to say that... but truth be told I messed up my laptop and it's in the capable hands of my eldest (pictured above,) I have to cook something before I go pick it up, and I just don't have that "cooking" feeling.  My little princess chair, of last weeks post, is no further along, I drilled my new holes a little off, like by 1/16 of an inch, and it bothered me, so I filled and glued again, waiting to dry it up. (the story around the workshop is I like the smell of the glue) But, I did finish my little cork foot stool and as soon as I'm not carrying stuff home I'll bring it to show and tell.  I'll be working on the princess seat this week, while my glue dries, I do hope I brought the horse hair home to wash.  My book "Corked" is well underway and I'm only missing one or two photo's of finished projects.
Don't forget to participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count this weekend.  It's fun and very important to our environment. For more info check here. At the moment I don't have a single bird visible in my yard.

Saturday Snapshot... Momento?

A few years back, my boys brought home a movie, on one of our movie nights, called Momento.  It was one weird movie.  My mom had not yet been diagnosed with dementia/Alzheimer, so memory loss was not on my mind, at the time.  Since that time it has been in the forefront of my life. I hated that movie, I mean really hated it, but every time I take a picture at the shop, just so I could remember what I did (so I could do exactly the same thing on the next one) I think of it. Well in the above memory capture, I've deconstructed a pretty little chair, only my doll will be allowed to sit on, it's very fragile, but has some lovely detail (not shown) I've filled the dowel holes with new and improved dowels and filled in the gaps the dowels didn't fill with Epoxy wood filler, (smelly stuff) and now I'm going to drill out new holes to fit the sides of the chair into.  Did I tell you I love to drill, my arm pays for it that night but, what fun would that be if you didn't feel that shakiness forever. The deconstruction and filling and sawing and drilling has now taken me a couple of hours, while I wait for the glue to dry, I make tea.  Because I've been waiting for such a long time everyone thinks this is my job.  I want to put a sign up, your mother doesn't live here, clean up your cups, but... the worst group for this is the Wednesday afternoon group, I go in on Thursday morning, and start the clean up.( I know my sisters will not believe this, we each have different criteria for a clean counter)  Where am I going with this... O yeah... I'm going to take a picture of a clean counter and a not so clean counter with dates on the bottom, maybe a caption "did you do this?" The men are the worst, so I can only assume there a few more men in the Wednesday class than the Thursday.  The women bring a snack, like delicious cake or something, the men just don't take their turn.  Sounds like handy Andy doesn't it?  One of the ladies in the class told me to stop complaining, because I'm lucky to have him... I suppose? I thought maybe I'd send handy Andy over to her house to cut the grass, I think she'd have a different opinion then.
And yes, I shall post a photo of my finished chair, hopefully I'll be able to assemble the whole frame in the upcoming week, and then it'll head over to the upholstery room (with me) and I'll cover the seat.  I know most sites I visit seem to do a seat in the blink of an eye.  I don't.  I must wash the horse hair at home, which I brought home.  I want to put a totally impractical seat cover, like maybe raw silk, or a beaded cover, totally not suitable for a seat, but certainly lovely for a princess, or a doll.

Saturday snapshot... at a snails pace

disjointed, needs to be re- pegged and re glued
before "hammer time"

There is something very cathartic about hammering a chair/bench apart, or any piece of furniture for that matter. I feel like I  might be back in the saddle again.  I was over at Catherine Holman's blog (wonderful artist) and Catherine is off to a good start with her revamping of a chair and table.  Somehow for me it becomes a lifetime achievement.  This was the second day I was beating this bench apart, I did strip it, since it had Sears Weatherbeater on it.  It's almost done, I waited for an eternity for my husband to take me to the lumberyard, since carrying a 2 X4 piece is a little difficult and the bus passengers don't appreciate it either, but it will soon be posted in it's entirety.  I've even thinking of giving it some "flair".

but it all happens at a snails pace

Will I live long enough?

Well last night I completed removing furniture/wood pieces from my mothers home, with help from my brother-in-law and my grumpy husband. I could see things painted on each piece and therefore could not just throw them out.(My husband is having a fit). Like the bookcase that we had as children(which we hated) I could see a fox hunt scene across the front of it. The wood bed frame, well that will have to be a continuation of Noah's Ark. And then there is that table that would be great as a chess table. I'm just thinking I'm not sure I'll live long enough to paint all these things. Oh well I'll be signing up for studio painting beginning Wednesday, hope I can accomplish some of these tasks. And then of course there is upholstery...oh yes, and the knitting machine, and all that silk embroidery.............................. I even have the fur to make this lovely muff for my cat. Imagine that!

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to my wonderful son,  it's bee 33wonderful years. Hope this year proves to be the best yet.
