Well the yellow paint came off like icing. The wood underneath was in good shape, but not particularly interesting.
I painted it silver, and then I thought I'd do the little curving cuts with black, but I hated that. So out came some golden nugget (which is very transparent). I did the edges and little curving cuts with a very thin coat. And I like it, it didn't do anything for my front hall ( too cool a colour for the Kansas City Wheat colour of the walls) I shall have to repaint it, but it looks good in my bathroom, and serves very nicely for facecloths and towels

Irene! It's GORGEOUS!! I'm so impressed. Might you do a tutorial post on how to do something like this?
O Trish, this was easy, just strip with your favorite stripper, sand enough to make the wood even and paint. I even used those paints you buy in the craft dept. at Walmart, folk art, silver, and then the golden nugget. I did put a water/acrylic varnish on the works. End of story. Now if I could just remember what safe place I put the the knobs.
