Well last week was both busy and wonderful. As in my previous post I mentioned, we finally made our way to the beach. Too short! I finished reading Quietly in their Sleep, by Donna Leon, not sure I'll be seeking out any more of her books anytime soon. While I loved Brunetti and his team, and the scenery of Venice, I found it very "church bashing" and while I believe all that I read, or should I say it was believeable, it was the "whole" book. I found that difficult to deal with, and while I was very interested in the crime, it was of too little significance in the book, or at least that's how I read it. Too bad it was a nice little book, easy to carry in one's purse, and could have been so much more. I'm on to Crimson Rooms today, or whenever I sit down. I have a bit of paper work to do today, work related. And I'm hoping to see my mom in the a.m. I like to mess up my visiting schedule for the staff, keeps them doing their jobs. On my visit to her on Friday (which they are quite expecting me) she was quite alert and that led me to do my thing in the library, consequently I have a bunch of books that I've withdrawn. I'm happy to say we are almost 1/2 in large print. Large print novels are so hard to find, I was delighted when our book fair had a serious amount. Bingo I shouted. We also have a few audio, which I thought would have been a big hit, but it seems our ladies just don't like things in their ears. I'm thinking of asking for a volunteer to help them set a tape/cd up and come back and turn it off and then after a few times perhaps they'll be able to do it themselves. I picked up a couple of books this week, Nick Bantok, the Forgetting Room, and Hat Box Letters, ( I think I have this one someplace, but it was such a nice clean copy and for .50 Hardcover, did I sell you?).
and before you know it, it will be Christmas prep, my Grinch ornament, the paint is peeling, annoying |

That ornament is really cute! (I guess you can spot paint?) I've been meaning to read more of Bantock's work and look forward to reading your review of the Forgetting Room!
Very cool that you found large print books! I love the Grinch ornament!
I just love your Grinch ornament!!
And I think if the ladies could figure out the equipment, audios would be a big hit .I know my grandmother really enjoyed them.
What a cute ornament......I just can't find time to read this summer at all. Thanks for sharing Irene.
It seems ages since I visited here Irene.
I guess I've been helping the kids shift and settle into their new home!
Soo glad to hear that you got to the beach..lovely!
"Bingo I shouted" ... that made me laugh out loud, dear Irene. You certainly are a doodle.
You have quite the talent for painting! though I completely understand the frustration of peeling paint. I'm not thinking about Christmas yet--need to get through Halloween first! ;)
