Mail Box Monday... or UPS SUCKS!

Well I shouldn't really say these were in my mailbox, on account of the UPS guy decided not to leave them there.Mailbox Monday is a weekly meme created by Marcia at Mailbox Monday and is being hosted all this month by 5 Minutes for Books.
  • What an ordeal.  I got this little note telling me to pickup my books at the UPS retail store.  Part of the convenience of ordering on line for me is the delivery.  I'm so tired of carrying stuff. So when I got my little note to tell me to pick up, I was already a little not happy.  My darling son said he'd go for me.  He got there, and their computer showed that my package was delivered, being the gentle soul he is he didn't argue about it. Well his mama is not so gentle.  I was told to check with the 1800 number.  and I did, after 45 min. of waiting for an agent she just repeated that her computer shows that the books were delivered.  I KNOW they were not,  she asked me if I looked in my mail box. HUH?  Did I mention that last months order went back to Australia. I live in Canada.  So if I had anymore concerns I could always go to www. O.k. so I did.  No help.  So I did print off the "proof of delivery" and waltz, no stormed down to the UPS store.  Well I got the same run around.  I was asked for I.D. and then I was asked what my husband's name was, "Oh we shelve our parcels by the husbands name?" What the ..... I tell you and hope you believe me "I was getting really mad"  there were all of 10 parcels on the shelf, and my parcel did not jump  out at them and I was being dismissed.  Well out I hauled my proof of delivery, I then asked for his I.D.  and low and behold Hassan did sign for my package, well he just didn't know what could have happened?  I must say during all of this he served three other customers.  Never once saying "excuse me".  Well Hassan I said, you keep looking on your little shelf because I'm not leaving. So Hassan phones head office, and head office says" yes Hassan you should have that package, you signed for it!" didn't they just say I GOT it.  So Hassan once again asks me for my husbands name, to which I say "NO" this is my I.D. and that's what you are looking for, change you system you door knob,  heck look through ALL ten packages.  Needless to say it was there all along.  At the end of this, Hassan of course served several more customers, I say to Hassan,|I don't want to come back here, actually I said, "don't make me come back here Hassan".  Tell the drivers to DELIVER MY BOOKS.  He of coarse gives me all kinds of reasons why that won't work,  I say MAKE IT WORK Hassan.  I was so ticked I haven't even opened my package.  It better be very good.
I also received "what you wish for a novel, by Kerry Reichs, it was a win from Bermuda Onion's giveaway. Delivered by Canada Post.  Kathy was also the one who "turned me on to" the Watch that ends the Night, a really good book.

And of course I picked up from book exchange at the painting studio
The House of Sand and Fog
Light a Penny Candle, Maeve Binchy
Love in the Time of Cholera
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.

Holy cow! There is so much wrong in that and don't even know where to start. I hope your books are great after all that!

I loved your story...and I could feel your frustration. What's up with the "husband" bit? Obviously he's from somewhere with "traditional" roles; I think he'd better change...and fast.

I have had troubles with UPS, but usually it's because they deliver things without my signature and I find them sitting on my doorstep, where anyone could take them!

Hope you do enjoy the books....and thanks for visiting my blog.

Holy crap! My head would have exploded all over Hassan. What a needless runaround. Sorry you had to get so aggravated that they didn't do their job correctly.

This is terrible and i am sure not once did they offer any kind of I'm sorry. But at least you got your books.

Good grief!!! I think my head might have exploded had that happened to me. And your husband's name?!!!?! What? Ridiculous. And that doesn't even take into account the rude manner you were treated by Hassan. I hope you filed a complaint. Hope you have a better week and, from here on out, much better service from UPS. Do you use twitter? I'd tweet something about it to @UPS - maybe you'd hear something.

Grrrr, I would not be happy either. Thankfully, my UPS guy and I are on friendly terms!

I found out this week just how archaic my bank was last week. I added my husband to MY account 27 years ago when we were married. I found out this week he is now the primary on the account and I had to have his approval to get a loan. Made me feel like we were back in the dark ages! I feel your pain! On one good note Shades of Gray is soo worth the trouble! It is an excellent read!

Hi Irene,

It's so refreshing to hear that folks in other countries also get problems with their mail deliveries, and there was me thinking that it was surely just a crummy British problem!!

We have the same problems with primary named people, especially when it comes to insurance and credit cards. Despite the fact that we have both in joint names, because his name appears first, he is deemed to be the primary account owner, so the companies won't even talk to me ... not even if all I want to do is pay them money!!!

Still, I am glad that you got your packages in the end and I sincerely hope that the books are worth the hassle!

I see that you also acquired a Maeve Binchey book. I used to read a lot of her stuff and it was such a shame that she passed away a couple of weeks ago ... she will be a big miss in the fiction writing space.

Thanks for the visit today, it is always good to hook up with new bloggers.

Oh my soul dear Irene, you just made me split a gut with that story. I told TG to stop what he was doing so I could read it out loud to him and he was very amused too. "She's cranked up!" he said. I am wiping tears away right now, thanks so much for that belly laugh. OH ... I AM sorry you had to storm down there and give Hassan the what-for but I do love your spunk and spirit. Never back down, never give up!

Sorry you had such an ordeal to get the books. In our small town our service is much more personalized. Hope the reading is happy. :-)

What an ordeal!!!! I just finished Henrietta Lacks for the second time (listened both times) and loved it. LOVED it. I hope you do, too. It's a little science-y at times but just a heartfelt/heartwrenching story.

Hope you're having a great week so far (other than UPS!)

I don't mean to upset anyone or cause a ruckus, but the US Postal Service is the most reliable delivery service I've ever used. Whenever I have a choice, I pick them. UPS and FedEX always do something slacker like this and I don't understand why everyone thinks they are so reliable. Whenever I get a gift from someone who's used them I consider myself lucky it reached me.

In other news, I'm sorry this happened...

I've had my share of grief with UPS over package deliveries...not ringing the doorbell to let me know they're dropping it off, leaving the box out in the rain (comeon!! we're in Florida and it's rainy season!), hanging it on the fence by the road where anyone could grab it.

But...they are sometimes more reliable than others as far as getting a package on time. I do prefer FedEx though.

Jenners said...

Wow … that is pretty darn awful. Really unforgivable almost. I would have been beyond peeved. They owe you something!!!!

Geesh, what an ordeal! I've never had a problem with UPS deliveries here in the States. I have the nicest driver! He knew that I could possibly get a package during our latest trip, and sure enough we did. He took it over to our neighbors (per my request, just in case) and they were able to sign for it.

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to my wonderful son,  it's bee 33wonderful years. Hope this year proves to be the best yet.
