Saturday Snapshot...Iris

Irises, aren't they lovely.  I do love them wish they bloomed longer though, like all summer, they are so short blooming that in my little garden, it's just frustrating.  However, I took a photo of them for Snapshot Saturday hosted by Alyce  at At Home With Books.   Whenever I see the Iris I think of Lucy and Iris Smachoo.  Lucy was a friend of my best friend Janice's, and Iris was her sister.  Their real names were something else, they are Ukrainian and in order to fit in they Anglicized their names to Lucy and Iris.  Iris as I recall was part of the in crowd of the Ukrainian youth, that our friend Ronnie was in with.  Not sure about Lucy.  Lucy is a textile designer, and we sort of lost touch, but she should know that I think of her and her sister and her dad, (never knew her mom, she had died when the girls were young) at least once a year if not more.  I love Irises you see.

Your bearded irises are lovely. These were a favorite of my moms. She had every color imaginable.

I do love irises, too, although I probably wouldn't be able to identify them without your photos here.

I like your nostalgic story, too; it's great when things we see conjure up memories.

Here's MY SATURDAY SNAPSHOT POST

I, too, am an iris fan. Isn't it funny how certain words or images or events can bring back memories that are so strong and consistent?

Our iris have set their blooms, but are not flowering yet. Mine are a golden color with an almost brownish beard ... they're all so lovely aren't they?

Isn't it funny the people that linger in our memories for some reason, even when we're out of touch with them? One of my favorite recipes is a family dish we always call "Laurie's Casserole," even though my mom lost touch with Laurie 25 years ago! Thanks for sharing your story, and beautiful iris pictures.

How fun that the flowers remind you of your friend! I don't have any in my garden - maybe someday. I do have pansies and daisies though, and honestly I hadn't even thought of it until seeing your post today, but my great-grandmother and great-great-aunt were named Pansy and Daisy. Must have been a subconscious choice for my garden. :)

We have deep purple irises in our front yard and I love them, but you're right they bloom for far too short a time.

I love irises too! We left a huge assortment of them at our former place. There's not enough room here at the new homestead. Ah, they may not last long, but they are so grand and easy to grow.

Those are beautiful. I have a few grouping of them in my garden. And there are still a few flowers hanging on!
