Far or Near...

Far or Near Aunts are always Dear. I can say that with an open heart. Remember that Parallel Universe I spoke of, well, it seems while my mom was talking to her sister in her delirium, my aunt, (her sister) was passing away. My aunt was far away, I'm so glad that I got to know her at least a little bit. She was generous of her time for all who needed it. Her children, and nieces and nephews, and grandchildren adored her. I never heard her raise her voice, or argue, or give orders, she treated all of us with a smile and a kind word. She baked a mean Walnut Torte, and decorated it beautifully, without any training I might add. She was one of those awesome orphans of the war. A sad, sad story she told my mother and I when we visited was one of burying her own mother,(my grandmother) and I don't mean arranging a funeral, I mean finding her mother in a heap of corpses, dragging it out and digging a hole. Imagine that at twelve years old. She and her siblings never located their father or grandparents, separated in the transport they just never knew.

So it is a sad time for us all. I take comfort in the fact that when it comes time for my mother to pass she will find solace in the loving arms of her sister.

Sorry to hear of your Aunts passing. I've only got one left from 10 when I was a kid.

Oh, Irene. I am so sorry. Please accept my condolences and my prayers for your family as they grieve for this great lady. I am humbled by stories of those who endured unimaginable hardship and loss in their childhood, and yet who refused to allow darkness and bitterness and man's inhumanity to man, to rule the balance of their lives. I would love to have tasted that wonderful walnut torte! She'll live on as long as you remember. God bless you.

Irene. Your post is very sad indeed. Our relatives have some of the saddest tales to tell. I count my blessings that I have not lived through a war in my own country.
