Border Crossing...

D.J. and S. Vincent preparing and loading to set off clay birds.

The U.S. brides with my husband. The one in the middle is from Long Island, and the two (sisters) are from Iowa.

Getting ready for awards.

The Whole Gang.

I've been married to the same man for 31 years. It's hard to believe. My husband's side of the family on his mother's side are Latvians. After coming to Canada my husbands uncles' (who were single) met up and married with lovely ladies from the U.S.A. I've come to realize that Latvians are big hunters and fishing guys. They also have a number of related interests such as "skeet shooting" This weekend, is the year for U.S.A. to come over for a tournament. As the years go by the group dwindles, some have died, some have married outside the culture and some like my guys are just working students who can't make it. There will be a little shooting and a lot of food. I've also learned over the years that Latvians have "different" culinary tastes than my kitchen provides. So it's cabbage and tomato casserole today, and Blueberry Cheesecake for my contribution to the pot luck. There will likely be smoked eel, perogs (a little bun with bacon and carraway inside), probably deer stew, sauerkraut, rye bread (home made) cucumbers with sour cream. and that is all I can think of. Some of the younger group will likely bring a bucket of chicken. and then Prozit!

Well that certainly is a different menu...like the blueberry cheesecake!

That sounds like so much fun! When I was younger (even just a few years ago) strange food intimidated me, but now I love trying new things. Some of that food, like the perogs and the homemade rye bread, sound fantastic!

Well the Latvian food is not my thing, but the cheesecake sure is.

Congrats on 30 years of marriage. I know that may sound crazy to say, but so many people just don't make it anymore. I think it's wonderful that you two have survived because it's not always easy.

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to my wonderful son,  it's bee 33wonderful years. Hope this year proves to be the best yet.
