Everybody sees the Ants? ...

I just finished reading this book, Everybody Sees the Ants. WOW! it gets  a 5star rating from me.  I believe I read the review originally on Nise's blog, Under the Boardwalk.  Excellent recommendation.  I also planned on reading it for my What's in a Name Challenge 2012, but only just got it from my library (waiting lists) this past week.  Well worth the wait.
Lucky is a young boy who is relentlessly bullied. He has a big secret though, he is going to rescue his grandfather from a Vietnam POW camp.

Do read it, you won't be sorry.

I'm linking up to Theme Thursday, for which Ants are the Theme this week.

A Thousand Splendid Suns...

Finished this wonderful read today.  My interest of life in Afghanistan was first piqued a number of years ago shortly after 9 11.  My young reading group were reading books short listed for the RED MAPLE AWARD. One of the books was Deborah Ellis' "The Breadwinner".  I can tell you it really made me think.  My next read was the Kite Runner and now A Thousand Splendid Suns.  Wow! war is ugly to say the least.  But it never ceases to amaze me how ugly people can be to each other.
This book follows the lives of two young women through life just before the Russian Invasion of Afghanistan and through to the early 90s.  Heartbreaking, angry, and unforgettable are only a few ways to describe their trials, their relationship and the incredible will to survive the experience.  All I can say is, just when you think your life is difficult... think again.

Tuesday Times...

I posted about my annoying cat yesterday, not really liking me being busy.  Well he's an indoor cat, except when my husband is home, he nags and nags to go out.  My husband lets him out and I hate it, he's got no claws, and how can he defend himself.  He was declawed when we got him and was intended as a indoor cat.  Well this morning I'm in the garden setting the stage for lawn mowing and out he comes and takes off on me.  I don't know where he learned this but he opens the screen door himself when he wants back in.  Well he got the wrong house.  We have new neighbours and they are new to Canada as well, so a cat is a really "strange" guest.  I'd forgotten he was out, and figured he'd come home when something started him, he really is scardey cat.  Well it wasn't scaredy cat screaming, it was my neighbour who sleeps days.  That cat moved so fast you'd have thought he saw a ghost as I'm sure Anton did (our new neighbour)  I quickly hid in the yard, pretended I didn't know him, and thought I'm going to act surprised.  Here he is exhausted after his ordeal.  Needless to say my husband got a proper talking to, no more letting the cat out.

Well tomorrow is painting day, I'm hoping to get my white poppy well on its way to being a painting, and then my mom's, it's their barbecue day.  Yuk! pureed barbecue.  I think I'll be doing take-out and yoghurt.
