It's Monday What are you reading?

It is Monday indeed, not much reading over the weekend.  It was so cold on Saturday, while I was waiting for the bus, I daren't pull out my book for fear of frost bite.  So, the book will have to wait till I get warmed up.  I've put aside "Just what kind of Mother are you", Paula Daly, just to difficult a subject matter.  In my bag is The GoldFinch, Donna Tartt.I can't remember who recommended this book, but it must have been an awesome review, it's a 771 page hardcover.  I'll need a new elbow by the time I finish.  Or maybe I'll drag out a music stand and lean it up against that.  My elbow is killing me already, just thinking about it.

from the inside cover:
It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a thirteen-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

As an adult, Theo moves silkily between the drawing rooms of the rich and the dusty labyrinth of an antiques store where he works. He is alienated and in love-and at the center of a narrowing, ever more dangerous circle.

The Goldfinch is a novel of shocking narrative energy and power. It combines unforgettably vivid characters, mesmerizing language, and breathtaking suspense, while plumbing with a philosopher's calm the deepest mysteries of love, identity, and art. It is a beautiful, stay-up-all-night and tell-all-your-friends triumph, an old-fashioned story of loss and obsession, survival and self-invention, and the ruthless machinations of fate.

May have too many big words for me, but we shall see...
Happy reading.

I've read good reviews for this chunkster. It is on my TBR list.

That sounds like an interesting book! And one that is best suited for a Kindle, LOL. I just downloaded The Book Thief from the library yesterday, so I hope to start it later on today!

That certainly does sound like an engrossing story, dear Irene. Happy Thanksgiving ... even if you're not having it there on the same day as us down here!!!

I seem to prefer books between 250-350 pages, unless of course it's a Stephen King. But sometimes a chunkster grabs your attention and you just have to read it. This may end up being one of those books for me.

Can't wait for your review!

Sounds like an interesting book. You always have interesting books Irene. Hope all well there. Sounds like it is cooling down rapidly.

The meat pies in your previous post sound good too. Nice on a cold day! Wish I could get a little more settled here, and get on with some furniture restoration. One day, I keep promising myself!

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to my wonderful son,  it's bee 33wonderful years. Hope this year proves to be the best yet.
