Sunday Salon... Home at last!

Be it ever so humble... it's been a whirlwind of a week AGAIN.  My mom has been sick with some virus or other, and even though the home is in "lock down"  my sister's and I go to check on her.  She needed to be looked after.  She is however, on the mend, after I don't know how many pots of soup.  It should be a golden rule, sick people get soup.  In a recent newsletter put out by the facility at which my mom is a resident, the manager strongly suggested family's not give gifts to staff, I can see why, some staff members would get coal in their stockings.  By our account they should consider themselves lucky we didn't get physical.  It's amazing how one can racial profile a nation by the actions or inactions of one person.  Remember that, you represent your whole country.  I'd like to suggest they mix the teams of nationalities, but then again the odd one out would be working alone.   So just to give you an account of my life this week, it's been several bus/train rides, not much reading, just too tired to open the book, (Major Pedigrews Last Stand), a freak snow storm had me crashing at my sister's/brother in laws.  And today, Sunday, I'm looking at my tornado of a house, with vast amounts of newspapers, I think I may need to chisel the food off the counter, and certainly dig my way through the avalanche of laundry.  But first, I'm going to church to thank the Lord for the strength he has given me to control my homicidal urges. I haven't posted for almost a week, and I'm brain dead. Desperately trying to compile a gift list and actually find the energy to shop. I've come to really hate shopping.  If the gift isn't available on the "zon" I'm not sure you'll be getting it.  Headed out to the One of a Kind show last week, after furniture refinishing, paid my entry, went directly to the vendor in question, only to be ROYALLY disappointed.  Speaking of "disappointed"  Our painting pals were talking about "disappointed" in a variety of situations, and then explained why use that word.  Well it seems one of the golf pals (of which I am not) found she was using foul language all too often so she decided to say "disappointed" instead.  So now you know when I say "disappointed" I really mean #$@@ instead.  At any rate, left the One of a Kind, with nothing, not even a piece of fudge.  DISAPPOINTED!
Plans for today, well, I may just throw up my hands and say"what the hey".  and sit and read.  You know I'll never get away with it.  My tree is buried deep inside the avalanche of laundry, and I'm not sure I'll find the ornaments.  BUT, I am liking Major Pedigrews last Stand.  I need to think about my Christmas baking.  And apparently my Mother in Law is hosting Christmas dinner.  We bring the food, she sets the table.  UGH!!!!!! I just want to lie down.  Maybe I'll take an Advil, that seems to make things much better.

Maybe my title should be Sunday Rant rather than Sunday Salon.

Dear Irene. It is lines like this ...

~~Remember that, you represent your whole country.~~

~~But first, I'm going to church to thank the Lord for the strength he has given me to control my homicidal urges.~~

~~If the gift isn't available on the "zon" I'm not sure you'll be getting it.~~

... that keep me coming back to Irene's Desk year after year.

You may not have gotten even a piece of fudge at the One of a Kind sale but girl, YOU are one of a kind. A complete original. I love it.

As to gift buying, TG and I stopped off at a store that advertised online that they had plenty of an item we want to get for our Melanie, but guess what?

DISAPPOINTED.

You have been having a bad time of it lately! If I lived nearby, I would be hand-delivering some Christmas cookies to you! {{{{hugs}}}}, my dear!

Irene, what a week for you.
Sorry to hear about your Mum, and the snow storm.

Try (no, don't) getting the shingles just before Christmas,
especially when you still not allowed to drive
and in the middle of a heatwave!!

Gah.

Not sure my shopping will get done either.
I forgot to mention the mad wild hailstorm, the broken window, and the mess all over the yard to clean up before having to go visit the family in Melbourne.
Oh and a laptop that wouldn't start after turning it off.
Used it in Melbourne by not turning off, until it turned itself off after updating!
My dear daughter came to visit with baby girl last week, and managed to fix my laptop as well as do a hundred other things. Maybe that's why I have the shingles...too much extreme..!!

Oh Irene. I hope that today is a wonderful day for you and that you were able to sneak in some of that reading yesterday afterall. Sometimes it's so tough to just set aside all of the have-tos but sometimes we just NEED it.

Keeping your mom in my thoughts--as well as you. Take some deep breaths and maybe just sip some warm apple cider?? Hugs.

Glad your mom is mending! Oh how I'd love to be stuck in a snow storm. I know, strange...but growing up where there's plenty of snow and moving to where there is none, I miss it.

I vote for just forgetting everything and spending some time with your book. You deserve it!

I'm glad your mother is on the mend. I hope she gets great care from now on - my dad was lucky to have one woman who felt honored to care for the people in her charge.

Thank you so much for the good vibes, my Friend!

Tomorrow afternoon I drive my darling husband to the hospital. We'll spend the night at a place called Green Gables. Wednesday morning he goes in at 8 a.m., His surgery is mid-morning.

I am sure my darling will be alright, but my heart still shakes at the very idea, or possibility of something bad happening.

((hugs)) So, thank you again.

Awesome use of "disappointed" - so smart to use it as a code word. I hope this next week is a better one for you!
