Brotherly Love?

In the last couple of weeks I've finished two books, in which the "feeling" was love of a brother.  Both books were set in WWI and post WWI.  Private Peaceful was an amazing book about two brothers who joined the army to fight.  They had been close all their lives and the older brother always looked out for the younger, so much so that he was eventually shot for his commitment. A sad but wonderful story.

And then there was the Crimson Rooms, this was post WW! the story of a a family who could not come out of their grief, a sister who could not miss her brother more, thought of him everyday and who was devastated to learn of his uncharacteristic actions, but was only too delighted to have him back in a way.

At any rate, these two books certainly made me think of my brother, I hardly see him, rarely call him, sometimes e mail him, but certainly nothing like the relationships described in these two books.  I certainly hope my boys are closer as adults, it's easy to be close when you live in the same house, it's when wives and children get into the picture that it makes it more inconvenient. Were it not for Christmas and Easter we probably wouldn't see each other at all.  However, I recommend both these books if you just want a good historical read.  I read these two to fulfill my challenge for the War Through the Generations WWI challenge.

I'm not a huge historical fiction fan, but they do sound interesting, especially the second one.

I have sisters instead of brothers, but I definitely can relate. Life with kids keeps us so busy that we only see each other a few times a year.

Good for you, you managed to get some reading in. I love to read but just can't find time, soon as I sit down... interruptions.

I love historical novels....I usually go to Richview Library around the corner from me and they have a great assortment of books, but no time. Hopefully this Fall I can get some reading in.
Thanks for sharing your books....they look interesting.

I certainly hear you about being not close enough with my brothers. Once our mother died and the inlaws got involved, things pretty much went south. We're on good terms, so that's something.
