The Stand...along

I've been reading the Stand, by Stevie King.  I'm not particularly fond of this genre, but when Trish from Love Laughter and a Touch of Insanity suggested a read a long, I thought I should stretch out and fly. I'm not quite half way, I must confess, I don't particularly like it.  Just too much to absorb.  The Characters are quirky, ordinary people, perhaps even the undesirables of society, in a situation that is desperate.  So far, I feel for Frannie,  not sure about her with Harold, but what choice did she have.  Stu seems like a descent man, but maybe we're just led to believe that.  Larry, and Rita, well that's just strange.  He is just a PIG in my view, didn't like him from the start. I kinda like Nick, but what a situation he's gotten himself into.  Are there really people like Ray in the world?  So sad.  Trashcan, well, while I'd like to feel badly for him, I don't.  I was sort of intrigued by Bateman.   I don't find the story moves along fast enough for me, for some reason.  I want a solution much faster than it's coming and I don't want to read Stevie King anymore after this one.

I'm at page 333 and am not sure how much more I can take.  You can understand why I need to listen to ...

Maybe you'll come around in the second half when the characters are a little bit more developed?

I'm sorry that this one isn't happening for you Irene!! I felt really disjointed the first few hundred pages but now that the story is coming together I'm enjoying it a lot more (maybe another 150 pages from where you are?). I know that sounds daunting...and I totally understand if you abandon.

I hope that it gets turned around for you. This is not my normal genre either, but fortunately I enjoyed my time with the book.

Aw, sorry to hear you're not enjoying it. Hope you've got a few more pages left in you and then it still has a chance to win your heart! ;-)
