Saturday snapshot

Saturday snapshot is hosted by Alyce at At Home With Books

A walk through China town fruit market was a request by my visitors.  I can honestly say that China town in Toronto and China Town in Montreal differs only by the fruit stands we find inToronto, the smells are equally offensive.  A whole lot has China Town of Toronto, there are no chickens hanging on hooks, (at least that I spotted)  and in Montreal all the foods are sold indoors.  Hmmmmmm. But these are some strange looking fruits, don't read Chinese so have no idea what they are, but they are unique.

I like the colors--such variey! Wonder if the top ones are fuzzy or prickly? Interesting and attractive pix!

These photos remind me of walking through the new mega-huge T & T Supermarket here in Ottawa.
Crazy crazy diverse kinds of foods on display.
Both inanimately vegetative and......... still crawly-around-y.

Never heard of lychees. They look like fuzzy raspberries. How do they taste?

At first glance I thought they were strawberries gone bad! But then I enlarged the pic and could see the fuzz was part of the fruit.

I'm guessing hairy strawberries and mutant plums.

We had lychees like that at our B&B in Hawaii and I was intimidated by them until we were shown how to eat them. You cut into them and peel off the the outside (the colored part and hair). The inside looks like an almost clear orb, which is the part you eat. I thought it was tasty. :)

My thought too about these. Interesting but not sure if I'd eat with all those fuzzies. Looks like a hairy strawberry. I know what you mean about the smells. Going through Chinatown in Boston is the same. I have eaten at a couple places there and it's very different from what we North Americans think of as Chinese food.

first one is easy...they aren't prickles, and when you peel off all that, the inside is definitely delicious, YUM!
wish I could tell what those purple ones are? They look good too. They look like plums?
