Magpie in the Tower, Helen Pereira

Just finished reading Magpie in the Tower, by Helen Pereira.  This short little read is written in chapters in accordance with the poem,
One is for sorrow
Two is for joy
Three for a wedding
Four for a boy
Five is for silver
Six if for gold
Seven for a thing that can't be told
Traditional Irish Verse.

An interesting little book, the Author, a Canadian sets off on an adventure in Ireland.  I enjoyed this book quite honestly because it didn't dwell on the poverty and alcoholism I always seem to read about in the Irish books.  It portrays Ireland and a historically interesting land, albeit with a few quirks.  It refocused me on the wonderful poets and writers Ireland has produced as well as comparing it to the wonderful authors Canada has produced.  Just the boost the mother of a Canadian author/poet needed.

Canadian Author Challenge

How's my Ireland Reading Challenge Going?  I'm up to #5 with the completion of this book. Kiss the Blarney Stone level: 6 books.
