good friends come to dinner or lunch, or brunch...

A number of years ago a friend was moving into a condo and downsizing in a major way.  She was so ticked off that her daughters didn't want any of her mother's china. How unfortunate! So I got these lovely bowls.  And then while waiting for that bus ... matching sandwich plates or are these actually the dinner plates, they aren't small, but not large either.  They actually look really nice with my Denby dishes. All I have to say is I'm praying for those smokers, they've gotten me some lovely treasures while smoking themselves silly. So when I set my table with all these goodies I often think of my friend who no longer is able to come for lunch, but I know she would  have loved that I enjoy her mom's dishes.

These inspire me to make my sweet potato/parsnip soup, and serve it with chicken asparagus crepes, and a spinach/mandarin orange salad.  Yummy.

Well, it is a shame that you ended up getting the plates that way .. but what a wonderful addition to your household. It seems that getting sets of china is a thing of the past. I know we didn't register for any and haven't really had a call for it yet.

Shame on those family members that did not want the china! But it was great for you! Those are lovely dishes and you deserve to give them a new home.

Their loss was your gain! Those dishes are beautiful! And I know your cooking will do them justice, dear Irene.
