All about lace...

The strangest thoughts jump into my head when I'm "focussed" on my painting.  I did a weekend workshop with Arlene Linton, and while I've painted from her books in the past this was one heck of an experience.  The room is filled with 19 women, all "focussed" on their 1/4 of the entire design, soon to be reduce to 1/8 completed, WOW.  If I couldn't paint anything else ever again I would be glad I did this one.  I'm no where near finished.  But, while we were painting and Arlene walked around helping us with our queries, she told us jokes, talked about ladies and groups who actually make lace.  I immediately thought of the book I recently read, The Lace Reader. And then you know where there are women there is usually food, so we talked about keeping your very pricey paint brushes in good shape and the role coffee plays in this.  As you might imagine you usually have a cup at you table and often reach over with paintbrush in hand and accidentally dip.  If it's water no harm done, if not well you get up and wash out the cream and sugar.  Speaking of coffee, you have no choice but to think of dessert, and I had to the think of The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake.  Saturday was a potluck lunch, I made an interesting dish.  Bisquick Pizza casserole.  It smelled great, and tasted pretty good.  3 1/2 cups Bisquick mixed with 1 cup of milk, plop this into a casserole, randomly, by the spoon full, it will not cover the bottom (which has been sprayed with non stick stuff,) using only half of the dough, then spread 1/2 of 2cups of spaghetti sauce, sprinkle with pepperoni, and mushrooms, and peppers if you like them, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese, and repeat bake at 350degrees for 25 minutes and enjoy.  I think I needed a salad to go with but it was a little bit of alright. You know we had dessert. We laughed so much that my stomach hurt by the end of the day.  I just needed that.  But now I'm looking at all my lace hankies (the old ones) for the design of lace.  I can't let myself get too carried away, I really don't have the room or the eyesight for yet another hobby/obsession.

One of the ladies was going for the Chantilly lace look, so you know we had to sing along.

That sounds like a charming day all around! My family would love that recipe, I do believe. Unfortunately, right now my oven is on the fritz! I do mean totally! We are thinking of going out to eat on Thanksgiving for the first time EVER (on Thanksgiving, that is!) ... but we shall see! At any rate, we know we'll have fun. Glad you laughed till your stomach ached, dear Irene. That's a good feeling.
