I've been doing some accessibility assessments of voting locations over the past two weeks. I'm so amazed at how far we've come, from the first time I did them, nine years ago. Take for example I watched "The Untouchables" over the weekend and you know that big scene where Elliot Ness helps the lady with the baby carriage up the stairs,only to be confronted with Capone's men. Well that won't happen in the places I've been to and as dramatic as that scene was, aren't we glad that that baby wouldn't have been on the steps today, he'd be on a ramp with a slope no grater than 2.8degrees, and the mom would have had wheels on her luggage, Boy there was a lot of steps in that scene.
Most places in our province will have to be retro fitted to meet these standards. But we'll all be able to get around when we are older, even, and especially by public transit. It's a good thing.
