Musing Monday

Rebecca from Just One More Page is hosting Muse Monday.

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about multitasking.

Do you – or are you even able – to do other things while you read? Do you knit, hold a conversation, keep an eye on the TV? Anything?

Until recently I always read before bedtime, in bed, no music, no T.V. on, not even anyone at home, just my cat and me. But, since I do so much traveling by public transit, it means a lot of waiting. So I've begun to tune out passersby, people in the waiting room, and bus depots (which have that muzak piped in). I had a hard time at first, but I had to train myself. I've also gotten to be able to watch T.V. while reading, can't be something I'm interested in, like "LOST". My next goal, to teach myself to read while the bus is moving, I'm o.k. on the train, even during rush hour, but the movement of the bus just doesn't work for me yet.

My nest challenge, audio books, in my ears.

Oh yes, I multi-task all the time! I read a lot on long trips while hubby is driving. I also do needlework while watching TV.

While in Spain I was amazed to see people reading on the subway (sitting or standing) even if they only had one stop. They were also reading on the trains and the buses. I have to have total silence. I'd probably miss my stop too!

Yes, I read while the tv is on..but prefer silence really. Has to be a good book and a boring tv show...which means I usually get up and turn off the tv anyway...or the sound down.

I also read on the bus or train (esp the subway in NY if I am on my own), but even then I usually much prefer to watch the people etc...and also the scenery go by, even as a passenger in a car.

So really a good book is much better digested by me while lying down on the bed...probably after lunch for my siesta.

Having a sore heel one is supposed to be "resting" makes for a good excuse for some good reading. reading.

Happy Birthday
