A-Z Wednesday...H The Herb Book

Welcome to A-Z Wednesday!!
To join, here's all you have to do: Go to your stack of books and find one whose title starts with the letter of the week. Post: 1~ a photo of the book 2~ title and synopsis 3~ link(amazon, barnes and noble etc.) 4~ Come back here and leave your link in the comments If you've already reviewed this book you can add it also. Be sure to visit other participants to see what book they have posted and leave them a comment. (We all love comments, don't we?) Who knows? You may find your next "favorite" book. THIS WEEKS LETTER IS: H

I can't believe this is the only "H" book on my shelf. However, it is a great reference book. I believe I bought it when my eldest was one of those crying babies and I was at my wits end trying to get some sleep for both of us. I might add that while it may have been a help back then, I still don't sleep much, and he's the reason for that as well even though he is 23. I remember quite clearly strapping him to my chest one night (my husband worked nights) so I wouldn't drop him or roll over on him because I could feel myself falling asleep. Anyway

Synopsis: An excellent reference book of today's most popular herbs. Each entry is accompanied by a full description of the herb, followed by notes on cultivation and special uses. Fully illustrated and superb colour drawings to help identification.

Vogue food writer, Arabella Boxer, has created over 275 exciting recipes using the fresh flavour of herbs. They range from light wholesome soups and vegetarion dishes to delicious sauces and refreshing , health-giving drinks.

This book is to come out on Oct. 6th, 2009, it's by the author of "The Time Travellers Wife". Click on the link to listen to the story a little.

My favorite "H" books are those made/created by hand. I love this art form. As a sewer I find this one of the most relaxing projects I can possibly do, often on Sunday afternoons with a group of great gals we laugh we talk, and we sew. Why do you need to make your own books for, you ask? Well, I need to not only love what I'm doing but also have a purpose for doing something and while I don't think my kids will appreciate them now they might someday.

For example, the "full metal" jacket book you see here with the clock on it is my journal for my son Sasha, just thoughts about him, feelings, and yesterday I even put a recipe in. When I was expecting him I craved pie. So I baked everyday a pie, (you can just see that chubby girl popping out) On the day I went into labour and he was born, it was a peach/apricot pie. yummy. And then there is the fat chubby book with the beads, my gift record, the piano hinged book with the skewers on the spine, for my chinese food recipes etc.

The one with the tulips is a little book my friend Lois painted, just to note some thing we splatters did through the years.

I just posted this photo to remind you about this book. Lennie posted this for the letter "D". Oh my gosh! a must read. I'm supposed to be doing laundry, but the dryer is disturbing me through this one, so laundry will have to wait. Yes it's that good.

Photos of books I own.

The handmade books are gorgeous. I think I hunted down two copies of The Herb book for my mom and a friend of hers a couple of years ago when I planted an herb garden for mom. Don't know that she's used it but she sure was appreciative that I found it. :-)
