Writers Workshop... I'd rather be reading at the beach.

Mama Kat's pretty much famous workshop is here for this week.

This Week's Writing Prompts for Thursday 07.24

1.) 9 things you'd rather be doing today.
2.) A blog post inspired by the words: growing pains
3.) Something new.
4.) Kids say the darndest things...
5.) Talk about a time you took a chance.

For me #1 is the way to go.

Nine things, eight of those things, would and could and should be, I'd rather be reading at the beach.  I'd love to just pack a picnic and a book, a jug of ice tea, some cucumber sandwiches and a comfy beach chair.

I never did this with my kids, the beach thing anyway.  Our beaches are so polluted that was not an option, and the ones that are less so, require a long road trip.  I'm sorry I never did that.  And now they are men, who wants to go to the beach with your mom.

I think there might be nothing more relaxing than sitting in the sunshine with a good book. Not worrying about cleaning the house, or pulling weeds or doing laundry, or painting the house, or anything. Now how likely is that, not likely at all.  If I rip away for one day of "said" planned event, I'd be making potato salad, or packing sunblock, or shaving my legs, not the relaxing event planning I'd hope it to be.  I don't sit, in a chair in the sunshine and read,  I always buy a comfy chair in the event I do have a moment to do so.  But, then I get out there and there are weeds, or windows to wash or pruning to do, SO I'd rather be reading at the beach.
The final thing I'd rather be doing today would be painting plein air .  I haven't done this since early days in college.  Grab your easel, and paints and go out and paint.  Again, not likely to happen.

When things get overwhelming, sometimes I just have to saw what the heck, and then schedule in some fun time. And some of our "fun" time has been very simple the past few months, such as grabbing a few cold drinks and settling into our front porch rockers or back porch gliders. We either read, watch the world/weather go by, or simply chat. Stuff still needs to be done, but we take time for us to step away from it all. Little mental vacations that may only last 15 to 30 minutes. Little slices of simple bliss - we'll take them as we can!

Make it happen, dear Irene. You deserve something as simple and relaxing as sitting on a beach, reading. That's a common fantasy of mine, too. But when I get there? I itch to take pictures. At sunset. Oh well ... c'est la vie. xoxo

I grew up close to the beach and used to go there all the time as a child. I have many fond memories of time spent on the sand.

I'd rather be reading at the beach too, and it's a shame I don't do more than I do since I live so close.

Painting outside, especially at the beach, sounds wonderful! Even though I can't paint, I'd give it a try.

Happy Birthday

Happy birthday to my wonderful son,  it's bee 33wonderful years. Hope this year proves to be the best yet.
