As you may have guessed I love to sit and surf on Pinterest. can't remember where I pinned this from but isn't this lovely? The other day I shared a pin from a lovely French settee stating that I could easily sit there with Mr. Darcy. My sister wanted to know who Mr. Darcy was. I'm sure she's met my husband the look a like. Well if you closed your eyes, had a few glasses of your favorite spirit, and plunged yourself into a fictitious fit he would fit the bill. Of coarse he would not fit on the settee, nor would he even attempt to sit in the garden with no TV. So when I saw this lovely setting, I could think only that it would be a tea/bridal shower for ladies, My Mr. Darcy would probably run away from such an affair, but a girl can dream can't she. The aprons remind me of a time long ago, when my sisters (there are four of us) and I would help serve meals at our Polish banquets or weddings (things were a little more down home in those days than today). The bride or her mother would buy us a fancy apron and give us $3 to serve the meal, at a banquet you could stay for the dance afterwards, at a wedding depending on your relationship to the bride/groom sometimes you could stay as well. We would be thrilled with these fancy aprons. I had quite a collection for these (I didn't really date or anything for a long time, after all I already had Mr. Darcy). One such occasion was our friend Ronnie and John's wedding it was two settings for dinner (many guests). Barb and I were servers. Ronnie and John are Ukrainian and while it's a similar language to Polish it has a few "different" expressions. We were rushed off our feet, the Church hall was packed solid, and the guests at our tables kept asking for "baraboly" we didn't have a clue. We were the only two non ukranian servers, and the other girls were so busy, like us, you didn't get a chance to converse. Thank goodness for Mira, one of my mom's friends, I hightailed over to her table and asked her what "baraboly" were. Eurika! I don't usually wear an apron, but I think this dressing up the chairs is so neat, I may make some for some girly party, if I start now I could have it done for my 65th birthday party,(I celebrated my 60th this year) it's in the month of Novemeber so I'll have to rent a greenhouse to replicate this scene.
And I wonder why I can't sleep well, I'm always thinking of things to do... not necessarily getting them done.
I think perhaps Mr. Darcy (AKA Handy Andy) will be sending me a gift subscription to Apronology

Oh, it would be a lovely party to have a setting like that! ~swoon~
loved your apron story. seems you worked even cheaper than I did as a teenager. At least we got $1.40 an hour!
Your sister doesn't know who Mr. Darcy is? I love the setting too!
Love this post, lots of good stories!
I'm a November baby too!
I think that would be a fun table setting for a tea party or a shower. I don't know if any real "Mr. Darcy's" exist. I think he was written as a place for women to escape to.
That outdoor apron-themed shower is brilliant. The aprons are so pretty and to tie them around the chairs is too clever. And dear Irene, thanks for raising my consciousness to a publication called Apronology. I can think of at least two ladies who would love a subscription of this, and I think that makes such a handy gift. No wrapping or mailing involved. Your description of your husband as a sit-in for Mr. Darcy had me cracking up. I even read it aloud to my daughter. Only in fiction, I fear, from the pen of Ms. Austen, do we find such romantic heroes. Ah well, dear Irene. As you said, a girl can dream. And she must. xoxo
